Moonlit Forest Drawers

I had been looking for a demi-lune furniture piece for a while when this popped up.

My initial thoughts when collecting these drawers were heavy and hard work. I was right, but of course pieces are heavy when they are made from quality solid wood. This beauty was mahogany and needed a lot of preparation.

My original plan was to paint it with a moon on top and fern silhouettes in a similar fashion to the Woodland drawers also shown in the gallery.

Blends of chalk paint blues created the moonlit look, with the moon on top being painted in white and grey shades.

The fern idea was replaced with tree silhouettes as I was visiting an ancient Oak woodland every day. I was so inspired by the stark twisting branches against the crisp winter skies that I couldn’t resist this change in direction.

After all this TLC on the outside of the piece, the interiors looked a little sad so the drawers were decoupaged with a rust patina effect paper and gloss topcoat. This is a nice contrast to the flat matt blue exterior.
